2. Makes X-Men: The Last Stand An Important Film
Now we all know that when Bryan Singer left the director's seat after X2, The Last Stand was not going to feel the same as the previous ones especially since Brett Ratner was the one who replaced the replacement that was Matthew Vaughn. There were some major problems with this film, one was that there were little to no Cyclops (I know James Marsden had other films to do which prevented him from gaining anymore screen time), Kitty Pryde overshadowed both Colossus and Rogue and Angel really didn't do anything. However, one of the few things that they did get right, was the escalation between human and mutant hostility. The plot's inclusion of a mutant "cure" angered mutants or viewed it as a godsend. This cure allowed mutants and humans from fearing each other to open hatred. The big battle at the end of the film could have been the catalyst that finally forced the U.S. Government to go to extreme measures in eradicating the mutant race since they witnessed Magneto's entire army of angry mutants and Jean Grey using her near god-like mental abilities to destroy everyone and everything around her. If this is true, X3 would go from being the weakest in terms of plot to something essential to the history of these characters and even to the viewers as well since they would understand why the events of Days of Future Past are happening. Also the fact that Bryan Singer has stated that he is taking in all the X-Men movies into account as well, which further proves that The Last Stand might be playing a important role for this franchise.
