9. Old Man Logan Is Coming (But It'll Be A Bit Different)
When Hugh Jackman appeared at Comic-Con, he teased that the next Wolverine movie will be an adaptation of Mark Millar and Steve McNiven's Old Man Logan, a tale set in an apocalyptic future where the world's heroes have fallen and villains rule. Since then, Patrick Stewart has confirmed that he will be making an appearance in the movie as Professor X and Wolverine's father/son dynamic is explored, while there have also been some pretty strong hints that Liev Schreiber is going to be reprising the role of Sabretooth. As you're likely already thinking, neither of them factored into the comic book version of the story, and as that was packed full of Marvel Studios owned characters like Hawkeye, Hulk, and the Red Skull, it's rapidly become apparent that if we are getting an Old Man Logan movie, it's not going to bear much of a resemblance to the source material. One person not remotely worried about that is Old Man Logan creator and Fox creative consultant, Mark Millar. Pointing out that the Marvel characters aren't actually important that important to the core of the story, he recently explained that Hawkeye's role could just as easily be filled by Cyclops, while the Hulk could be switched out for a villain like, er, The Blob. To be fair, Millar makes a great point, and keeping this story firmly in the X-Men Universe is going to make it far more accessible to fans of the franchise (plus, they really don't have a choice what with the rights issues and all). It's worth noting that Wolverine 3 being Old Man Logan hasn't actually been confirmed, and even if it does borrow elements from that story, this movie is inevitably going to be a very different beast. For that reason, some comic book readers are sure to be disappointed, but hopefully the studio finds a way of doing both this story and the closing of Hugh Jackman's tenure as the clawed mutant justice come 2017.
