X-Men's Gambit Spin-Off Movie: Everything You Need To Know
2. Tatum's Going To Play The Role With A Cajun Accent
One of Gambit's defining characteristics is his southern heritage. Known as the "Ragin' Cajun", the character's geographical origins are imprinted pretty heavily on his personality, including a charismatic drawl. Fellow southerner Tatum has confirmed he intends to capture that element of the character in his portrayal, something that Kitsch overlooked back in '09. On the subject, Tatum had the following to say:
Hes got a serious Cajun accent. I dont know if youve heard a Cajun accent but its I mean, were going to have to have subtitles sometimes (laughs). He has almost a Jedi mind trick thing that I want to try put in where he speaks patois and so Im going to have to learn patois which is going to be hard. But, well see.
That's a seriously committed take on the character, and shows how deeply Tatum feels about the part. Very few actors would immerse themselves to that degree in a fantastical character's regional quirks, so it speak highly of both the prospective performance and movie as a whole. However, whilst the accent might be difficult, the charm should be second nature to the effervescent Tatum.
