X-Men Apocalypse: 13 Reasons It's A Huge Disappointment

8. Havok's Death Has No Emotional Impact Whatsoever

Havok's demise comes when Apocalypse compromises Cerebro and Xavier orders him to destroy the room with his energy beam.

As he fires the beam, however, it eventually collides with an explosive device placed in the X-Mansion by Apocalypse, detonating and killing him.

Though Quicksilver courageously evacuates the X-Mansion using his super-speed, he apparently missed Havok, who was the closest person to the blast.

This should've been an affecting emotional beat, but it's not for several reasons: a) Havok has been an incredibly minor character in these movies and so it's hard to care b) we never see his corpse c) almost no screen time at all is devoted to Cyclops mourning his brother and d) we don't really get a feel for the bond between the Summers brothers: it's just assumed we should care because they're related.

Perhaps more scenes with Cyclops and Alex were shot but cut due to time constraints, but in the end product Havok's death rings strangely hollow on all fronts. Considering that he's the only major character killed by Apocalypse during the entire movie, it had to mean something, but it ultimately doesn't.
