X-Men: Apocalypse - 15 Questions Left By The Stupidest X-Movie Ever
8. How Can Magneto Just Power Anything Now?
Magneto first appeared in The X-Men #1 in 1963, where his powers were incredibly Ronseal; he could manipulate metal. Later publications added the ability to use magnetic fields to fly, but he's remained pretty consistent across all mediums. In 2016, though, we've got a new additional power; controlling whatever the f*ck the writers want, because everything's probably got some trace metal in it, right?
The film attempts to justify Erik's new ability to manipulate anything by citing Apocalypse's ability to increase mutant powers and tying it into the Earth's magnetic poles, but that is just ridiculous; there's no avoiding that you've OP'd Magneto. A character named after metal can now control anything. It's not like there wasn't a write around either - you could have had him mess with the Earth's molten metal core, something that would show his increased strength but fit the half-century old character.
This is made all the more insulting because this big change happens during a scene where Singer throws subtlety to the wind and has Erik just destroy Auschwitz, making the once-touching Holocaust parallel feel woefully insensitive to boot.
