X-Men Apocalypse: 7 Ways It Could Change The Franchise Forever

5. Raven Will Choose The Light

As well as fleshing out the history between Erik and Charles, a big theme of the X-Men prequels has been the battle for Mystique's soul. Erik wants her to embrace her proud, militantly mutant leanings whilst Charles wants her to be the trusting Raven he met all those years ago. Over the course of First Class and Days Of Future Past we've seen her drift between the two, most often occupying a middle ground. With Magneto falling off the deep end and pitching in with Apocalypse, it seems unlikely that somebody as potentially ambiguous as Mystique would buy into the mutant supremacy angle quite as easily. In fact she's only ever seemed to want peaceful existence, with the means justifying the end. After Charles is undone by Apocalypse we should see Mystique fully rejoining the X-Men - as hinted in the trailer - leading a team to not only stop the threat but potentially also to save Erik from Apocalypse's grasp. We've already seen Raven foiling Magneto's assassination attempt on the President, so it's doubtful she'd be able to witness the destruction wrought by Apocalypse in the name of mutant rule without turning her back on her darker ways and following Charles' dream instead.
