X-Men Apocalypse: 7 Ways It Could Change The Franchise Forever

2. Splinter Groups Will Form

Fox are planning a whole universe on the back of the X-Men's recent success (everyone's got to keep up with the MCU after all), and it's unlikely that they'll simply drop a replacement team like the New Mutants into cinemas after Deadpool and Gambit's standalone films without pre-warming audiences to the characters first. We could see groups of youngsters gathering to stand against Apocalypse's machinations or to protect civilians but equally some of the students that we see at Xavier's school, such as Jubilee and the young Nightcrawler, could be seen to form the New Mutants. Having the New Mutants based out of Xavier's school would not only give Fox a new narrative to play with thanks to a rich vein of high school movie drama, but it would also be less of a departure for audiences to get behind once we've left the core X-Men behind. It would also make crowd-pleasing cameos possible, as familiar faces come back to teach the next generation before they sneak out on adventures of their own.
