X-Men Apocalypse: 7 Ways It Could Change The Franchise Forever
3. It'll Be The Last Of The Core X-Men Films
When the credits roll on X-Men: Apocalypse we will have seen six movies based on the world's most dysfunctional team of superheroes. Those five films have covered a lot of ground from the comics and beyond and created some of the most believable representations of these extraordinary characters ever seen, ushering in a golden age of comic book movie adaptations as they went. The problem that Fox face is whether or not there will be any stories worth telling with Professor X and co. after Apocalypse. We've seen Dark Phoenix, we've seen God Loves, Man Kills and we've seen the differing methods and prevailing friendship of Charles and Erik examined in great depth, so anything afterwards would surely just be wheel-spinning. Solo movies for Deadpool and Gambit are coming next year in an attempt to launch Fox's extended mutant universe, and with Apocalypse wrapping up the narrative of the lead characters (and a happy, shiny status quo already established at the end of DOFP) now is the perfect time for Fox to use the high point of the resurgent series to spin-off in new directions. A New Mutants film has long been mooted, so get ready to say goodbye to Wolverine and co. and meet some fresh faces.
