The rest of the cast don't come off quite as positively. It was somewhat inevitable that there'd be some give, as Singer was forced to balance more characters and plot threads, but it's a shame that characters as great as Magneto and Xavier seem to have been so neglected. Particularly when Civil War showed that it's possible to have an even bigger cast and give most a fair share of time, or at least something interesting to do.

According to EW, the old guard just seem bored:

"The familiar faces are all back too. But for how much longer is anyone€™s guess judging from the general expression of tedium creeping across the faces of Jennifer €œMystique€ Lawrence and Michael €œMagneto€ Fassbender. James McAvoy, at least, gets to deliver a few breezy punch lines as Professor Xavier when he€™s not touching his temples like he€™s feeling the onset of the world€™s worst tension headache."

Perhaps it's just an issue of balance. As Variety say, there's just too many elements to really juggle and "it€™s easy to forget even McAvoy or Fassbender when they€™re off screen for too long..."
