4. Deadpool - Ryan Reynolds

Getting Deadpool onto the big screen has been a labour of love for Ryan Reynolds for over a decade, and after a notable misfire (more on this later) he finally managed to pull it off earlier this year with the release of the deliciously violent R-rated box office hit.

Reynolds has always been a likeable actor with a gift for delivering rapid fire dialogue, but his efforts to break into the comic book movie world prior to Deadpool have been pretty dreadful. Green Lantern ranks as one of the worst comic adaptations of all time and it's not the only one that stunk up the place. With Deadpool, however, his irrepressible charm, quick-wittedness and gift of the gab all coalesce perfectly.

Deadpool's incredible box office performance rests largely on Reynold's dominating performance - featured in virtually every scene in the movie, it's one of the most refreshingly inventive and unique comic book movie performances in recent years.
