2. Professor Xavier - Patrick Stewart

With his smooth, bald head and pronounced authoritarian voice, it seems that no one other than Patrick Stewart could have played the part of Professor Charles Xavier, founder and leader of the X-Men and patriarchal rock for all things mutant.

Having appeared in the role in five movies (along with an uncredited cameo in The Wolverine), Stewart has shown himself to be consistently exceptional in the role, exuding the intelligence and rationality the character is known for to perfection. It's no less than fans would expect from the actor who brought us Jean-Luc Picard, another iconic leader from a much-loved science fiction franchise.

While Professor X was absent from the latest X-Men film, Stewart isn't done with the franchise yet - he's set to reprise the role again in the upcoming Wolverine movie, due for release in 2017.
