10 2017 Video Games That Wasted Their Biggest Selling Point
4. Being The Next Wii Sports - 1-2-Switch
Y'know Nintendo, you could've just released Switch Sports, though you have to give it to them for going for a new IP with a different set of gimmicks instead. Sadly, although 1-2-Switch was set up as the next Wii Sports - complete with family-friendly minigames and a stupidly positive aesthetic, the reality is that mainstream audiences were completely done with motion controls.
Of course, it didn't help that the minigames themselves were just a bit naff. Milking cows, trying to catch invisible swords, guessing the amount of ice cubes in the controller? All fine, but nothing anybody is ever going to pay £60 for.
Although back at the Switch's launch, many lamented Nintendo's decision to not include a copy of 1-2 with every system, in retrospect it seems to have paid off, being they've avoided getting the Switch associated with the sorts of things that killed the Wii U. Regardless, even if Nintendo didn't fully believe in its capabilities and the consumer didn't want them, 1-2-Switch being completely forgotten about is a huge missed opportunity.
