1. The Companions - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
The Companions are a warrior guild in Skyrim and your go-to group for when you're playing a melee fighter character.
The people of Skyrim hold the Companions in high regard due to their history as the descendants of Ysgramor's original band of warriors that settled in the region, but the reality of their organization is far darker than that of noble Nords and heroes.
The first and most obvious of the Companions' dark secrets is their werewolf curse, which they willingly pass down to their most esteemed members. Anyone who has finished the Companions' questline knows this and has seen the disregard with which Aela treats you, hacking and slashing through the people of Whiterun on your first night of transformation.
However, there are other reasons to believe the Companions are scumbags that aren't anything lofty like an ancient Deadric curse. Doing side quests for the guild and interacting with NPCs around Skyrim reveal that your noble friends are mostly just thugs. They are frequently hired to intimidate and extort people for wealthy individuals, and they don't seem to question anything so long as the coin is good.
