But there's perhaps no game more obviously far into development than Microsoft's new RPG sequel Fable 4.

After the 2016 cancellation of Fable Legends, fans were left wondering when the IP might get resurrected, and back in early 2018, Eurogamer reported that Playground Games (Forza Horizon) were in the early stages of putting together a 200-person team to make a fourth mainline Fable game.

Apparently being assembled as a next-gen open-world game, Fable 4 is rumoured to shift away from the series' primary setting of Albion, which has since been destroyed, and will instead see the protagonist using time travel to restore the decimated land to its former glory.

Given that the game has been in the works for over two years, it's quite probable we'll see it revealed before the end of the year, perhaps for a release in the second half of 2021. But given that Fable is an IP held dear by many Xbox owners, Microsoft will certainly want to take their time getting it right.

It's 100% in production right now, though, that's for sure.
