10 Amazing Recent Games That Were 5 Hours Or Less
6. Still Wakes the Deep
The Pure Vibes game of the year, Still Wakes the Deep may not tout the deepest gameplay, but as a marrow-rich, four-hour audio-visual experience, it's basically peerless in recent times.
Set on an oil rig in the North Sea in the 1970s, this ambitious step forward for developer The Chinese Room (Dear Esther, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture) sees players desperately trying to survive against strange, Lovecraftian monsters which have enveloped the drilling platform.
But there's no real combat to be found throughout the game, with light, relatively forgiving stealth mechanics instead being the order of the day to make it past these entities.
Yet at its core Still Wakes the Deep is far more of a walking simulator than anything else - a breathtakingly vivid outing with a keen sense of place, and where every errant creak of metal is sure to leave you anxious.
And crucially, its predominantly Scottish cast of characters are brought to vibrant life by an outstanding vocal ensemble, who bring an authentically sardonic quality to the rig's roster.
