Dragon Age: Origins’ classes come with four unique specializations each that allow your character to unlock additional powers and abilities.

Some of these specializations need to be unlocked through specific choices in the story. In the case of the Blood Mage subclass, the choice is one of sacrifice… And then the costs of wielding its dangerous powers only keep on coming.

In the lore of the game, blood magic is a forbidden form of spellcasting as it requires a pact with a demon and a blood sacrifice in order to wield it. Indeed, in order to unlock it for your character, you have to strike a deal with a desire demon possessing the son of Arl Eamon and allow her to keep controlling the child after she cures the noble of his mysterious illness.

The pact is already a hefty price to pay, but as if it wasn’t enough, the Blood Mage specialization is also quite a costly school of magic to wield, as each of its abilities slowly drains your character’s health.

The powers it offers are an amazing way to gain a ton of mana and firepower quickly, but if you’re not careful, you might just kill yourself with them.
