Playing through a good video game for the first time is a pretty exciting experience. Some things might hit you immediately, like the design or look of the game, but others only come through slow progression; fully grasping the mechanics and beginning to utilise them in more efficient ways is a genuinely thrilling experience. As a result, that first playthrough of a game is pretty special; it's essentially the 'best' time you'll have with any number of games. The more patient of us might choose to go through something a second time though, simply for fun. However, on that second playthrough, you start to notice things which make the experience rougher. Perhaps there's a really boring section; perhaps the less than stellar gameplay is starting to grate; or perhaps you've noticed a giant plot hole and you simply can't put it out of your mind. Whatever it is, the second playthrough of a game tends to show you more of its flaws that you were oblivious to first time through - and it can damage your opinion as a result. Therefore, there are certain games that simply need to be played once for the best experience - one perfect run-through and that's it. Of course, there are exceptions to this (and really, if someone enjoys something enough they'll play it through constantly, regardless of ever-changing surrounding opinions) but in this article, we're looking at the games that excel that first time round. If you can think of any other examples that aren't included here (or you want to discuss the inclusions), please leave your thoughts in the comments below.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
