10 Amazing Video Games That Didn't Deserve To Flop

5. Silent Hill 2

Now it might be shocking to hear, but Silent Hill 2 was considered a flop when it first released. A game that's cited as one of the best of all time today, one due a lavish new remake set for 2023 and one that sits firmly in the hearts of players everywhere was initially considered something of an embarrassing misstep.

Confirmed by series artist Masahiro Ito on Twitter in 2019, the designer admitted that the initial sales of the game were so slow and disappointing - and the fan response so mixed - that the initial plan for Silent Hill 3 was to scrap the established mechanics and tone for something completely different. In fact, if you can believe it, Silent Hill 3 initially started development as an arcade rail shooter.

Of course, this initial 'flop' eventually won fans around and became successful enough to warrant a proper sequel, but that wasn't the case initially.
