10 Amazing Video Games That Didn't Deserve To Flop

3. Sunset Overdrive

Midnight Suns
Insomniac

When you think of Insomniac as a company, you think of hits. Whether it's Ratchet and Clank or Spider-Man, the developers have been cranking out great games for Sony consoles for decades, so it's perhaps fitting that the one foray onto the rival Xbox didn't manage to spark the same interest.

Sunset Overdrive is an inventive, anarchic open-world game that mixes the wacky weapons of the developer's own Ratchet and Clank series with the grinding system of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. It sounds like a strange mix but it actually worked wonders, making for an addictive gameplay loop bolstered by an interesting and colourful sandbox.

But, that wasn't enough to make it a hit with Xbox players. Admittedly, as an Xbox One exclusive back when that machine was the laughing stock of the industry, it might never have stood a chance, but a wonky reveal trailer which emphasised the title's cringey, meta humour didn't help endear the game to fans either.

So, it's not surprising that the title has never received a sequel, and Insomniac was sold to Sony a few years after this title's launch.
