The giant that is Grand Theft Auto has been a big name in the industry for nearly 20 years now, ever since they jumped into the world of 3D gaming with Grand Theft Auto 3. There was games released before then of course, but this was the one that put them on the map and they’ve been there ever since.

The time between releases of games in the series seems to have increased over the years. We’ve been sitting on Grand Theft Auto 5 now since 2013. But with rapidly increasing tech and the longevity of multiplayer modes, that is the way the industry works now. It wasn’t always like this however, five years was once too long to wait for a main entry in the series.

Rockstar beat even this though with only nine months between Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City. Wow.

With the release of Grand Theft Auto 3 in 2001 Rockstar was riding high, ideas of a mission pack were thrown around by designers, it would offer new vehicles, weapons, and story. They decided however that a new game would be best and set about creating what would become Vice City.

A totally new game designed, written and developed in just nine months, that’s quite an accomplishment. Not just that but this is a game that people quote as one of their favourites of all time, now that is impressive.
