10 Amazing Video Games With INCREDIBLY Short Development Times
1. Mega Man 7 - Three Months
It was common practice in the past that games were developed in a quicker time frame. Less writing, Pixel graphics, and shorter lengths lend themselves to a quicker turn around on game production. However, most teams still needed around a year.
Not Capcom though, because they developed Mega Man 7 in just three months.
The Mega Man series was a staple of the NES with 1-6 of the series being released on the console. The teams involved had sensible time frames to develop these projects, however, there was a new series on the horizon, Mega Man X.
This was going to be a new age for Mega Man released on the next generation of consoles, it was going to be Capcoms showpiece for the new SNES. However, there was one more numbered entry to go.
Mega Man 7 was the first and only entry from the original series released on the SNES, with the release of the X series Capcom wished to move one. The team had the chance to complete the project but only in a time frame of three months.
Amazingly, working all hours and under a tight schedule, they did make it. The team managed to create one last hurrah for the original Mega Man series before it moved on.
I hope they celebrated well afterwards.
