10 Amazing Video Games With TERRIBLE Graphics
9. Faith
Alien: Isolation and the new Resi titles are gorgeous horror games, but survival horror was built on the back of low poly early console graphics so it stands to reason you can get a good scare without good graphics.
Enter 2019 survival horror game Faith, also known as Faith: The Unholy Trinity, by Airdorf Games. Its graphics really speak for themselves and there’s not a lot more I can say beyond what you’re more than likely looking at right now. Basically it’s some MS Paint level stuff than even your crappiest artist, so, me, could probably recreate. Even so, there’s something very scary about the chilling robotic narration and constant dread of taking a wrong turn and getting murdered to death by a Samara-looking chick made out of a purple outline.
Not only is it effective, it’s legitimately scary, without ever once stepping outside the graphics capabilities of Microsoft Paint.
The creator instead played up the fear in exploring the environment and went all in on the game’s sound design, going so far as to incorporate audio clips from an actual recorded exorcism. The simplicity of orange crosses dropping off a wall or little environmental elements changing is delivered so cleverly that Faith easily proves that even in 2022, survival horror never needed great graphics to be scary.
