What it was meant to be: Poor Guillermo del Toro, the bloke just can't catch a break as far as video games are concerned. Not only was the famed director's collaboration with Hideo Kojima on Silent Hills unceremoniously canned by Konami, but even before that, del Toro was pursuing other projects in the industry.

InSane, a survival horror first teased in 2010 with a suitably spooky trailer, was to be developed by Volition, directed by del Toro and designed by his good friend Guy Davis. Sadly, the project never reached the point where any gameplay footage could be shown, but given del Toro's reputation, it would have undoubtedly been one hell of a ride.

Why you'll never play it: In the wake of THQ's increasingly dire financial straits, a cloud of uncertainty was cast over InSane's future, a concern that was ultimately warranted when the publisher went under the following year.

Now, we know what you're thinking, that del Toro could easily pitch the title to any other Tom, Dick and Harry studio, but given his involvement in Kojima's upcoming Death Stranding, the title's fate appears to be all but set in stone. What a shame.
