10 Amazing Video Games You'll Never Get To Play
3. Scalebound
What it was meant to be: An action-RPG - the first of its kind for PlatinumGames - that would whisk players off to the primal world of Draconis to engage in stylish combat with its megafauna as Drew, the wise-cracking, Dante-like protagonist.
Varied combat, progression systems and, oh yes, a pet dragon named Thuban were all elements shown off during Scalebound's final public showing at E3 2016. Thuban could even be issued commands and directly controlled through the neat-sounding Dragon Link mechanic.
Why you'll never play it: In January 2017, Microsoft came forward to formally announce that Scalebound had died a true death, cancelled due to "continuing issues surrounding the game's engine and overdue deadlines," according to Eurogamer.
Warranted? Without the full picture, it's impossible to say. From what was shown to the public, Scalebound showed clear signs of being a work in progress, but it was pretty, combat looked slick and its central 'gimmick' attractive.
Given that we're still waiting for the likes of Crackdown 3 and State of Decay 2 to see the light of day, could Scalebound's development cycle really have ended up taking any longer than those? You jumped the gun on this one, Microsoft.
