4. The Last Guardian
Granted, we're still not sure if this game is going to make 2013, given that its development appears to have stalled in recent months, and little has been heard about how it's moving forward at the moment. Still, Team Ico's latest title looks as revolutionary and exciting as their previous games Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, and while sharing the same aesthetic, is without question an original IP all in of itself. What really intrigues us about this game is the core gameplay mechanic; we play a young boy who is trying to escape some giant castle ruins, and he meets a large griffin-like animal called Trico. Together, the pair must team-up to help each other escape the castle, each doing what the other cannot, be it reaching small areas that the griffin is too large for, or the griffin reaching high where the boy cannot. The game is reportedly all about the relationship between the two, and given their past works as well as the tone of the trailer, we can assume that this ending might not be such a happy one. Still, Team Ico hasn't disappointed us yet, so we can hope that if the game ever finally makes it to our shores, it'll probably be an absolute doozy.
