9. Lewis' Story - What Remains Of Edith Finch?

Doom Eternal Revenant
Giant Sparrow

What Remains of Edith Finch? follows the last surviving member of the Finch family, as she returns to her family home. While exploring the house, Edith experience vignettes that recount the tragic deaths of her family.

Although Edith's brother, Lewis, has the longest scenario, it never feels bloated since it's deeply creative from beginning to end. After struggling with depression, Lewis started working at a fish cannery to get his life back on track. Despite being praised for his professionalism, Lewis daydreams to escape his mundane life.

For this section, players must carry out Lewis' duties at work while simultaneously navigating through his fabricated world. Even though this idea could be confusing or messy, it's surprisingly accessible and easy to follow. The colourful and vibrant graphics of the fantasy world juxtapose effectively with the grimy aesthetic of reality.

The magical land keeps growing, eventually taking over the whole screen, indicating Lewis has lost touch with reality completely. Believing he's about to be crowned king, Lewis walks straight up to a guillotine, allowing himself to be decapitated.

It only lasts ten minutes, but Lewis' vignette hits like a truck. As such, it would've been compelling to spend more time in his story.
