A console owned by just about everyone, the Nintendo Wii had an insane amount of reach, and in many ways fulfilled the unenviable task of satisfying the needs of both casual and hardcore gamers alike. Though the console is often lauded for having intuitive controls and a great library of first-party Nintendo titles, an aspect that is often overlooked when discussing the Wii's greatness is WiiWare.

Though there's no denying that much of the content on the Wii Shop Channel, in general, was plagued by terrible shovelware attempting to cash in on the Wii craze during its early years, WiiWare developed a respectable library of titles by the end of the console's lifespan.

WiiWare titles ranged from the coveted (Contra Rebirth) to the questionable (Eco Shooter: Plant 350), and from the banal (Soccer Up) to the bizarre (Enjoy Your Massage), but all offered a new gaming experience and provided many a young gamer with their first taste of indie titles.

Ultimately though the closing down of the Wii Shop Channel in January of last year meant that many of these games that were never ported elsewhere will be forever lost to history.
