10 Badass Women In Modern Video Games
2. Lara Croft - Tomb Raider Series
There couldn’t be a list about badass women in video games without talking about the first lady of video games, Lara Croft. Spanning a career of twenty-four years and over twenty games, Croft’s influence has been world changing.
Starting off as a bit of a sex symbol, she has since become a sign of feminism, independence and even of the video game industry as a whole. Ask anyone to name a female video game character and 99% of them will say Lara Croft, and it’s not hard to see why.
While she’s always been capable, strong and extremely likeable, it’s the recent trilogy that has really humanised the character. Giving her a full origin story in the 2013 remake, we got to watch Croft grow from a scared twenty-one year old woman to the expert archaeologist we know today.
She has been shipwrecked on an island, hit by an avalanche, even chased by a T-Rex. Croft has done it all. Where most people would get worn-down, crumble and give up, Croft blossomed. She really does embody female empowerment.
