5. Hexen
Hexen’s predecessor Heretic was dismissed as one of those dime-a-dozen Doom clones upon arrival in the mid-1990s, but in all fairness, both games brought a little something to the FPS genre.
Heretic was one of the first shooters to feature inventory manipulation and the ability to look up and down, while Hexen was a great game in its own right, offering a dark sword n' sorcery twist on the run-and-gun norm.
There’s certainly scope for a Heretic/Hexen revival.
Take the darker elements and visuals from Skyrim, combine them with the plug-and-play accessibility of the Doom reboot, and whoever owns the property these days would be onto a winner.
