10 Beloved First-Person Shooter Video Games That Need Rebooting
6. TimeSplitters
Whether you were mowing down gangsters with a tommy gun in prohibition-era Chicago or taking on the role of a robot from the 24th Century, TimeSplitters was always an absolute blast.
Take the award-winning mechanics of Perfect Dark and GoldenEye and splice them together with time-jumping chaos and gun-wielding monkeys and we have one of the greatest achievements of the PlayStation 2 generation.
Fans were treated to a top-drawer trilogy before TimeSplitters 4 was announced and then lost in development hell. Hope of a comeback remains in the form of fan-fronted remake TimeSplitters Rewind - created with the blessing of rights holder Crytek - but it’s time for a new dawn.
Not to be disparaging to fan-made projects - the industry needs those as much as blockbuster behemoths - but TimeSplitters has as much triple-A potential as any of the long-running shooter series currently commanding fanbases on PS4 and Xbox One.
