10 Best Areas In Dark Souls

The area just prior to the Dragon Shrine in entry 8, this is where you finally get the Aged Feather from the Emerald Herald in Dark Souls 2 and stop needing homeward bones.

This is one of the true non-linear areas in Souls: If you don't want any loot, there is a zipline straight to the end of the level but if you choose to explore, in amongst the dragons that are circling endlessly overhead and the ones that are quietly nesting on the ground, there is a multitude of upgrade material available.

Between the busy background and the craggy outcrops of mountainside, connected by rickety bridges, the player should beware of the exploding mummies that hide around corners and break your gear. They should also be aware of the hidden mechanic where the more dragon eggs you break, the shorter a time you can be on the final bridge before an enormous dragon comes and breaks it entirely - dropping you to your doom.

For players that want to just progress, it seems almost a shame to jump on that zipline to the end and miss out on the spectacular visuals and looting opportunities.
