10 Best Areas In Dark Souls
2. Drangleic Castle - Dark Souls 2
In the second installment, much of your purpose as The Bearer of the Curse is a little difficult to unravel. All you are really told is to defeat the Four Great Ones and collect their souls (or amass one million soul memory) to reach Drangleic and seek the King.
Once you've travelled to the far flung corners of your world in order to achieve this task, you walk through a tunnel, emerge out into the rain and finally see your destination looming large against a dark sky, silhouetted through the drizzle.
With statues that come to life when you approach, an almost-invisible vendor and a huge number of nooks and crannies to explore through, above and below the castle, any worries that it couldn't live up to the hype are quickly dispelled.
You can fight Ruin Sentinels beneath the castle, enter the Dark Chasms of Old or battle your way through the Twin Dragonriders, The Mirror Knight and (once you have the King's Ring) make your way to the final bosses of the game.
The castle and its enemies feel appropriate and make it seem as though all the effort you put in to get here was worthwhile.
