10 Best Battle Royale Video Games - Ranked
5. GTA: Online Battle Royale
Grand Theft Auto: Online is monstrously popular, so it only makes sense that Rockstar would try their hand at a battle royale mode. This one is rather different from the rest, however. Dubbed 'Motor Wars', the mode is focused almost entirely on vehicle combat. Any number of players from 4 to 28 drop into a massive arena and, starting out with only a pistol, are forced to fight to the death.
Motor Wars is different again however in that it's primarily a team-based game, with players entering the match as pre-made groups. Rather than playing across the entirety of Los Santos, the city is broken up into fragmented areas that serve as the mode's maps. Not only that, but a number of different points of interest show up on the game's radar, like vehicles and even enemy players, often removing the tension and suspense that comes with the genre.
Some hallmarks remain, at least. The map shrinks in size constantly, forcing players closer to closer until the game is won. It feels like there's potential here for a more traditional battle royale mode set across the whole of Los Santos, but for now, Rockstar is offering up their odd alternative.
