6. Virtua Fighter - Sega Saturn

While we all know how the story of the Saturn turned out, when it was first launched there was more than a little bit of buzz around the console. The company's antics at the first ever E3 had caused a stir and there were more than a few people who were curious as to what SEGA had to offer.

Much like with the Megadrive, the company's main tactic was to bring arcade-perfect conversions to the player. While that was once again not quite the case with the Saturn version of Virtua Fighter, the company still released a game that looked pretty damned good to the uneducated eyes of the time and - most importantly - wasn't missing a single move from the arcade original.

While SEGA's tactic ended up failing when confronted with the sheer volume of original IP coming to the PS1, the company fired an excellent opening shot with their conversion of Virtua Fighter, which would be followed up by a far superior sequel a short while later.

Now if only the company had made Panzer Dragoon a launch title in the UK.
