Ninety-nine times out of a hundred your video game protagonist is very likely to survive at the end of the story.

Unfortunately, poor old John Marston was the one in that hundred.

You've gotta admit, absolutely nobody saw it coming. When John walked out of the building to confront the government, you knew it was all about to go down; you just didn't know it was about to go down quite so badly!

The game presents the whole scene in beautiful, terrifying detail. John comes out and is confronted by far too many people to take on, but the game still slows down and tasks you with shooting as many as you can with his Dead Eye ability before he's finally overwhelmed. John dies, betrayed by the very people he was forced to work for for the entire game.
