10 Best Levels In The Spyro Reignited Trilogy
7. Desert Ruins
If you’re a sucker for puns and references to other ‘90s era games, you’ll love Desert Ruins. It features a British mouse with plaits, a turquoise tank top, brown shorts, brown boots and a penchant for exploring tombs. She’s named Tara Croft, if her design wasn’t enough of a give away.
While the level itself takes place outside of whatever tomb Tara’s been raiding, there’s still a lot of Tomb Raider-esque play as Spyro leaps and glides between jade limbs stuck out of the sand, Ozymandias style.
The enemies have that usual Spyro flair too, with flame spouting metal men setting the floor beneath them alight. This makes the climbing section a more interesting challenge than usual, and the giant scorpions add to the flavour of the level too.
Speaking of ‘90s, Sheila’s side scrolling section is a great addition as well. The portal section pushes you to use her abilities without applying needlessly annoying road blocks (cough cough Spooky Swamp).
With Tomb Wader being arguably the best level in Crash Bandicoot’s N. Sane Trilogy, it seems parodying Lara Croft was a sure fire way to ensure platformer success in the late ‘90s.
