10 Best Levels In The Spyro Reignited Trilogy

6. Metropolis

The enemies here are spaceship flying sheep, rocket launcher pigs and cows with laser blasters. That alone is enough to make it awesome, but Metropolis offers plenty more besides.

The juxtaposition of farm animals against robots and futuristic tech is one that really shouldn’t work, yet delivers one of the finest levels in the trilogy. Coming so late in Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage, it does put forward a challenge, but one that players who’ve reached that stage should be more than a match for.

Reignited has made it easier to work with the character models, with the militant barnyard creatures much smoother than the blocky polygons of 1999. Because of that, their expressions are much clearer, something used to great effect with the sheep especially. In the original edition, the gag was simply sheep in UFOs. Now though, we can see their manic glare as they try to bring about Spyro’s doom. They’re like Val Kilmer in Top Gun meets Jack Nicholson in The Shining.

Bombing the yak for a bonus orb is a fun mini game too, building on skills we picked up in Colossus’ hockey match. Might even have been the inspiration for some Year Of The Dragon boss battles too.
