10 Best Levels In The Spyro Reignited Trilogy
5. Lofty Castle
Lofty Castle is a superbly enchanting level, and probably the closest the game comes to capturing the feel of its realms.
In the second and third game, the realms were just hubworlds to explore before you ventured off to deserts, glaciers or underwater treasure troves. The link between level and realm was tenuous, if it existed at all. Not so in Spyro The Dragon. Each level was supposed to be an extension of the realm itself, and Lofty Castle perfected the already fantastic Dream Weavers formula.
Where Dream Weavers has the various Fools, Lofty Castle offers up strange puffer birds, demon cupids and gnorcs floating with balloons. Dividing the level up into separate airborne islands adds a nice twist to exploration too, especially with the purplish rocks adding to the summertime palette.
This island hopping exploration was useful in making you think ahead, rather than just charging through and skipping half the level as is possible in some of Spyro’s other offerings. Needing to free fairy trios to unlock the magic whirlwind each time was a brilliantly creative way of tying level progression to the fantasy castle theme too.
