10 Best Next-Gen Reveals In Gaming History
1. The Original PlayStation Makes Sure No One Is Red E
Sega may have fumbled their reveal of the Saturn, effectively distrubing their out audience by presenting games with an outlandish aesthetic. But Sony, when they showed off the Playstation in their advertisements, in their trailers, and in their promotional materials, they inspired players. Just seeing flashes of what was to come with Ridge Racer, the sports games, Battle Arena Toshinden, and Tekken, all while the ads were flashing cheat codes at them in hidden frames, it felt like a new generation, a whole new aesthetic for games to be presented int.
The reigns of the gaming industry were taken by Sony, and they were going to push gamers into the era of the CD, even if Nintendo kicked and screamed the whole way through, the era of 3D, knowing damn well the Saturn couldn't handle those graphics.
With their ads they taunted players, goading them into immersing themselves in the ultimate challenges that only Playstation could provide. They made gamers abandon everything they once knew with that simple mantra of "You Are Not Red E." Upon seeing that, gamers would leap out of their couch and say "Hell no, you're wrong! I am ready!"
They didn't want to wait another year for the N64, biding their time with an outdated SNES. The next generation was already there, and players would not let it pass them by.
