10 Best Nintendo Switch Exclusives Of 2018

The second of three Wii U ports on the list, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze is a great side scroller with a huge range of levels. Side scrollers have gradually became the domain of the indie scene over recent years (take the brilliant Celeste, for example), but Donkey Kong showed us that there's still a place at the table for the big money franchises with this second return to SNES roots.

With the Super Mario Wii U port due out this year too, there’ll likely be another awesome side scroller in the Switch’s best of 2019 list. For now though, the focus is on Donkey Kong and his buddies.

Diddy, Cranky, Dixie and Funky all feature too. Funky’s massive health bar makes playing as him an ‘easy mode’ of sorts, which is good for newcomers to the series.

It’s the variety and craft that makes this truly worthy of the top ten. The levels feel like they tell their own stories, the vehicle sections are surprisingly engaging, and the boss battles are great too. Nintendo is being understandably selective in which Wii U games get Switch ports, but they certainly made the right choice with Donkey Kong.
