7. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order
This is the most atypical game here, in that Marvel is clearly not a Nintendo property, and the game's genre, sensibilities, aesthetic and gameplay seem at odds with Nintendo's usual branding. A game which might have released on the Switch, sure. But as an exclusive, it definitely stands as the odd one out.
That's not a criticism, however. In fact, it should be taken as a compliment, to MUA and to Nintendo. Similar to No More Heroes on the Wii, MUA is a game which appeals to a different demographic and is desperately necessary if Nintendo is serious about competing with Sony and Microsoft.
A sequel to MUA 2 which released cross platform ten years ago, this was a game core fans had been waiting a long time for. While it perhaps didn't deliver on the most optimistic of expectations, it still managed a solid showing from which the franchise can move forward with a bit more haste.
The strange crystal skill tree felt like it had microtransations cut out at the last second, and the gameplay jumped between brokenly buggy and fantastic fun seemingly at will. When it worked though, the top down gameplay really packed a punch.
