10 Best Open-World Video Games Of 2015

8. Bloodborne

FromSoftware's games tend to get a bad rap in the mainstream; not because they're bad or anything like that - far from it - instead it's down to an unforgiving difficulty curve that for Bloodborne especially, will cleave you in two if you can't master it. Get past that initial opening slog though, and the same intrinsically appreciative qualities of Dark Souls start flowing in. The world itself is masterfully designed, a maze of interconnected corridors, pathways and elevators that reroute you back around to a previous checkpoint every half hour or so, really making you appreciate just how much time and effort has gone into designing it from the ground up. The gothic architecture can be spellbinding once you start breathing in the finer details of things like church windows or atmospheric lighting in more grimier areas. It might as well be Dark Souls III in terms of gameplay, but for a story told through the world itself, that's something truly exquisite.
