3. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers Of Sky
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon was always going to feature highly, it was just a question of which entry in the series was going to get the nod. Explorers Of Sky beats its competitors as it serves up arguably the best storyline a Pokémon game has ever given us.
Most games here are boosted by their connection to the franchise, with the creatures having an in built personality that players know coming in. With Explorers Of Sky though, it holds them back, if anything. Were it not a Pokémon spin off, the writing and gameplay would be enough to make this one of Nintendo’s modern day titans.
Indeed, Mystery Dungeon is a franchise of its own, with Final Fantasy versions of the game available alongside Pokémon. Explorers Of Sky is still their best offering though, with the player taking a quiz to determine which Pokémon fits their personality best. It’s a nice touch that really makes your input matter, rather than just letting you pick the usual Pikachu or Charmander options.
