4. Heracross
For kids who play the games trying to emulate the journey of anime protagonist 'Ash' Heracross is probably a popular choice. In competitive battles, though, he doesn't seem to feature as heavily. Heracross is a powerhouse; a dual type Bug/Fighting Pokemon with a ton of strong physical attacks to offer. Its Fighting type gives it a weakness to Psychic attacks, though it is able to learn Night Slash from hatching which easily makes up for this. It also has weaknesses against Fire and Flying types but can learn Rock Slide or Stone Edge; extremely potent Rock type moves that, if couple with an item that boosts the power of these moves, can swiftly neutralise a Fire or Flying type foe. Heracross's biggest strength is its Attack stat. Its Speed is also good, meaning it is often quick enough to get that crucial first attack. More often than not competitive battling teams focus on Special Attack and Special Defence meaning that Heracross' physical approach can become seriously effective if used well against these. A Heracross with the ability 'Guts' will also have its Attack stat boosted if suffering with a status problem. Similarly to Kingdra, there are no gimmicks here with Heracross. Heracross is a brute that can offer that crucial powerful approach when you're trying to wrap up a close battle.
