10 Best Quotations From The Metal Gear Solid Franchise

2. €œI Raised You, And Loved You, I've Given You Weapons, Taught You Techniques, Endowed You With Knowledge. There's Nothing More For Me To Give You. All That's Left For You To Take Is My Life.€ €” The Boss (Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater)

Hideo Kojima€™s Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater explored the origins of the franchise during the €˜hottest€™ moment of the Cold War by having the player assume role of Solid Snake€™s father, Naked Snake. Arguably the greatest origin story told in gaming, Naked Snake€™s character development was phenomenal due to the relationship he shared with his mentor, The Boss. The final showdown between these two titans was built from the minute that The Boss defected to the Soviet Union, making it a confrontation where the player would be on the edge of their seat. The Boss spoke softly about her life and how it had been shaped by what she saw during her time in space and, most importantly, the Cold War€™s impact on the U.S. and the Soviet Union€™s influence in the world, but it was the relationship she shared with her disciple that made this to be an unforgettable cutscene from the franchise. There was a bond between The Boss and Naked Snake that still can€™t be described with enough words for how unique it was, with this serving as one of Kojima€™s finest moments in writing. Furthermore, Kojima forced the player to end this relationship by pulling the trigger on The Boss, which also started the chain of events that would transform the world they lived in. Big Boss never shared this relationship with Solid Snake - which would be creepy if he did, considering Big Boss never €˜loved€™ Snake in the same way as The Boss - but it€™s interesting for how there are a few uncanny resemblances in the passage, including how he taught Snake CQC, served as Snake's commanding officer whilst he was in FOXHOUND and how his life was ended by Snake€™s hands (well, sort of on the last one). It€™s just as The Boss said: €œThere's only room for one Boss. And one Snake...€
