10 Best Quotations From The Metal Gear Solid Franchise
3. The Age Of Deterrence Has Become The Age Of Control. All In The Name Of Averting Catastrophe From Weapons Of Mass Destruction. And He Who Controls The Battlefield, Controls History. War Has Changed. When The Battlefield Is Under Total Control, War... Becomes Routine. Old Snake (Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots)
Solid Snake delivered one of, if not the, greatest monologues in gaming history at the beginning of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The atmosphere for the title was completely shaped around his comment, considering that the Metal Gear Solid world was now being centred on a war economy, which resulted in this dystopia that had been ushered in. Former U.S. President George H. W. Bush once proclaimed that a new world order had begun following the end of the Cold War, and taking Metal Gear Solids history-infused narrative and applying it within his comment fitted perfectly in a world which was shaped solely around war. The way in which voice actor David Hayter spoke the monologue was significant for how powerful it was, specifically when you take into consideration that Solid Snake is a veteran who has seen all of horrors when it comes to war, but when he said that War has changed, it made the player sit back and the statement truly sunk in for how this is different from anything theyve seen before in the series. Theres not a single sentence in the entire introduction which isnt relevant or fascinating to hear, but Snake did say one definitive line that stands out for how so much of history can be forged by it: And he who controls the battlefield, controls history.
