10 Best Reverse-Horror Video Games You've Probably Never Heard Of

1. Sea Salt

Last Year The Nightmare
YCJY

As was made clear in the first entry on Sugar and Sinew, taking control of a Lovecraftian creature can be a lot of fun, but there is a way to take it even further. Sea Salt ups the anti, as you no longer play the role of a physical evil being, but rather an entire Eldritch deity.

You play as the dark god Dagon, as he tortures a local seaside town. To gain dominance over the Earth and take out your aggression on the non-believers, you control a horde of minions and use them to destroy the community, with top-down action-strategy gameplay and an ability to corrupt the insignificant mortals who defy you.

The art style is deliciously retro, which helps to keep the game's scale in check. By opting for a more minimalist approach, the grand concepts of gods and cosmic horror are better realised, as you see the enormous existential events played out on a miniature level.

Additionally, the gameplay itself is very addictive, and while your plans will often fall apart, it's enjoyable to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and have at it again.

If you want to see what it's like to assume the role of god and abuse that power, then you should download this one to your Steam library now.
