10 Best RPGs From 1990 - 1999

5. Planescape Torment

Fallout 2
Black Isle Studios

Planescape Torment is another game set in one of the many lands created for Dungeons and Dragons, it also uses the same engine that was used for the previously mentioned Baldur’s Gate. While this game may not have had the commercial success of that game, it did gain a cult following and is often thought of as the best RPG of 1999.

As previously mentioned, the game is set in a world originally created for Dungeons and Dragons, more specifically it is set in the multiverse of Planescape, a setting that crosses multiple planes of existence.

In this game, you will take on the role of “The Nameless One” an immortal man with amnesia, as you journey through the planes you will have to discover who you are and why you ended up here.

Your character has the ability to level up as the player sees fit, with you even being able to change your class as your progress. What helps this game to stand out from others is the focus of the gameplay away from combat.

This game may not be quite as recognisable as many on this list, but it became a cult classic for a reason.
