System Shock 2 takes place in the cyberpunk future of 2114. You take on the role of a soldier as he attempts to stop a genetic infection from escaping a ship.
Developed by Irrational Games and Looking Glass Studios, System Shock 2 is considered a game that was way ahead of its time. While at the time it may have failed to meet commercial sales expectations, it is considered a classic that has gone on to influence some of the biggest games of the last two decades.
This game works as a mix of RPG, action game, and survival horror. The player will have to use a multitude of weapons and abilities to navigate through the environment and survive long enough to uncover the truth.
Information about the world and backstory on the events will be given to the player through log entries, this is just another example of a common practice in modern games that while not invented by system shock was made famous by it.
With the influence that this game had on modern video games, it is not surprising to see a remake is in the works. There is no better time to become a fan of the series.
