10 Best RPGs In A Modern Setting

5. The World Ends With You

yakuza 7
Square Enix

The World Ends With You is a JRPG that takes a lot of inspiration from the Japanese youth of today, well of today when the game came out so from 2007.

The World Ends With You takes place in present-day Shibuya, one of the special wards of Tokyo and a place that is known for its youth culture, something that is integrated really well into the gameplay here.

For a start, there are 13 brands in the game each of which have pins and clothing for you to equip. Clothing or "threads" as the game calls them are this games version of armour.

Pins give you cool abilities which can be used in battles, they're a lot of fun to collect because the battle system which utilises both screens is amazing so of course unlocking cool new abilities is going to be something you'll want to do.

Whilst The World Ends With You doesn't have as much to say on modern-day society as other games on this list it's still a really good RPG that has a modern-day setting, it's definitely worth a play.
